Case Study:

Company Law

Alexandra Sports is a specialist sports footwear retailer in Portsmouth. A family business, it was being run by the second generation: the original owners wanted to retire, but still needed an income from the business.

Working with all parties,  a succession plan that would give the parents a good retirement income, while handing full management control to their daughter, Dawn was negotiated. We also made it possible for Dawn's partner Ryan to come into the business as a new shareholder and director.

"Succession planning is vital for family firms, both to avoid potential upset and disputes, and to ensure the business is able to move forward," says Graeme, who handled the case. "Here, we were able to recognise the parents' contribution to the business, give Dawn the management freedom she needed, and bring in an additional shareholder – what you might call a win-win-win situation!"
